Day 13

Adam today for the final day of our amazing trip!

First on the agenda - we needed to get our negative Covid tests today so that we would be permitted to board the airplane tomorrow. Upon waking up around 7:30, we slowly woke up and got ready for our pharmacy appointments (that we had made yesterday) for 8:45 this morning. It was a 10 minute walk from our B&B.

Once we arrived at the pharmacy, we each took our rapid/antigen Covid tests. The pharmacist (Anna - super nice lady!) told us that she thought it was child abuse to do a nasal swab on such a young child. Nevertheless, we told her to swab away on Luke as it is required for all children aged 2+ upon re-entry into the US (the only country to have such a requirement on young children). Speaking of abuse, when it was my turn she was jabbing the thing so hard into each of my nostrils, I was literally in tears. I then heard her say "Oh, no, some blood" and she handed me a tissue. She was much more delicate with Luke, thankfully. Overall, it was a very easy experience (believe it or not).

We came back to the B&B to relax for a period of time. But then we knew we needed to find a store to stock up on supplies for our trip tomorrow. At the grocery store down the street, we got some stuff for our early breakfast and snacks for the plane flight. Once we came back to the B&B it was naptime for Luke, and relax time for me and Jessica. After relaxing for an hour or so, I looked out the window and noticed the clouds had cleared and it was actually sunny out - the first time this had happen since we'd been in Bruges. So of course, I had to go outside and explore/take pictures.

I went to all the main sights and snapped some great shots. Back at the B&B, Luke was now awake from his long nap and we hung out together on the window-sill and waved at all the canal boats and swans that were going by.

Finally, it was time for our last dinner - at De Vlamisch Pot. After a final walk through the town, we arrived at our dinner spot. It was very quaint and fancy at the same time. I ordered the Flemish beef stew and Jessica had the chicken vol-a-vent. As usual, Luke had some of everything including many french fries. All in all, it was a great meal. We were so full that some additional walking was needed. By the time we got back to our B&B we were exhausted once again. Luke went to sleep very easily and we continued with some last minute packing.

As for tomorrow, we have a short 2.5 hour drive to Paris tomorrow which will conclude our amazing trip!  Thank you to everyone following along.  We will try to remember to make a final blog post tomorrow upon landing and settling back in Burbank!

Day 9

Hello! Well, we made to it Bavaria last night to the town of Rothenburg (see map below). As the weather was turning colder, we decided this would be more of a relaxing portion of the trip. Believe it or not, our goal for this trip was to have it be more relaxing, which is why we decided to visit a bunch of small towns with Christmas Markets rather than large cities where we'd have to walk and travel extensively to see all the sights. We also thought that Luke would enjoy seeing the small towns - but, as it turned out, he has been mostly enjoying his toys, coloring books, snacks, dinosaurs, and TV shows...oh well.  After a slow morning, we looked outside to see snow dumping down on the town. I stepped outside to gauge what the weather was like, and the wind was whipping up and down the narrow cobble-stone streets. I checked AccuWeather and it said that with the wind chill, the temperature outside was 8 degrees F!  Regardless, we stomped out confidently into the streets to...

Day 11

Good evening from Belgium once again!! After a very long travel day we made it all the way back to Bruges in Belgium from Rothenburg in Germany (see map below). The GPS said the trip was supposed to take 8 hours without traffic. So, we were a bit worried that with traffic it could be much longer - especially since we would potentially be driving during both morning and evening commuting hours. We knew we would need at least one break in the middle for lunch and we had two routes planned - 1) further north through the city of Cologne, or 2) through the Rhine/Mosel Valley.  At our last breakfast in Rothenburg we enjoyed our final meal in the town while we pondered which route to take and chased Luke around the dining room. In the end we decided for option 2 because we were worried there might be too much traffic going in and out of a major city like Cologne. Plus, there is a small town in the Mosel River Valley called Cochem which we both really enjoyed on our first Europe trip toget...

Day 4

Jessica today! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Our day started off bright and early at 6:30am. Thankfully, we had packed the night before, so we quickly got dressed and were out the door by 7am for our journey to the Alsace region of France. We walked to our car and said goodbye to Bruges for now...we'll be back in a little over a week. Our drive took us through morning rush our outside of Brussels. Luke didn't seem to mind as it meant extra snacks and extra Cocomelon sing-a-long show for him.  After 2.5 hours or so, we arrived at our first stop, Dinant (still in Belgium). This was another location that Adam and I visited on our Europe trip in 2010. When we noticed it was right on our route we decided it would make a good spot to stretch our legs and break up the journey.  I don't think we were prepared for how cold it was (0°C or 32°F, literally freezing!). We hopped out of the car, bundled up, and took a short walk to the citadel. Adam snapped a few pictures, but that was...
